Defining Career-Readiness

The SkillsUSA Framework defines career-readiness for the Career Essentials Suite.

The SkillsUSA Framework was developed in 2014 because SkillsUSA recognized the need for students – future employees – to be able to intentionally develop career-readiness skills and communicate their abilities and employability to others.

In a survey of over 1,000 employers, respondents stated that their greatest hiring needs hinge on accessing job candidates who possess the seventeen skills that now make up the SkillsUSA Framework. These seventeen “Essential Elements” are divided among three components: personal skills, workplace skills, and technical skills grounded in academics.

The SkillsUSA Framework is crucial to SkillsUSA’s mission because it serves as a blueprint for career-readiness, our ultimate goal for students.
